In Town
The philosophy of the LSA board, simply put is this: our role is to
help players develop personal and team skills, get exercise and have fun.
We do not keep score in the in-town league, and
there are no play-off games. A round-robin style
Jamboree is held at the end of the year for the 4th through 8th
grades.
Players' and coaches' post cards will be sent shortly after August 15.
The cards tell the players who their coach is and the coach's phone number.
The coaches meeting is at the Community House near the end of August.
At that meeting, coaches get their team assignments and rosters, and an
equipment bag with uniforms, balls and cones.
Our season begins in September, on the first Sunday after the school
year begins. There are no in-town games on Columbus Day Weekend, but
coaches are welcome to use that time for make-up games.
In-Town games take place on Sunday afternoons at the following locations:
K - 1st Grade: Glenbrook Middle School, 110 Cambridge Circle
2nd-8th Grade: Wolfswamp Road Fields, 701 Wolfswamp Rd (not the school)
The in-town divisions are:

End of the Season
Coaches are asked to return their ball/equipment bags immediately following their
final games. At Glennbrook, K through 1st grade coaches should return
equipment to the trailer, where you will receive participation prizes for
your players. At Wolf Swamp fields, returns are at the Hut. The 2nd through
8th grade players also get participation prizes.
Assignment/Team Problems
If parents or in-town coaches have any problems with team assignments
or other issues, please contact the LSA InTown coordinator at
LsaInTown@LongmeadowSoccer.com.
Game Schedules
The in-town schedules are usually available in late August, and will
be posted here for you to download and print. Below are the 2009
schedules.
Field Maps
Maps are in Portable Document Format (pdf). If you don't have a pdf
reader, several are available for free on-line, including
Adobe Reader®.
The field maps are created after Longmeadow Parks and Recreation marks
the fields. We post the latest maps as soon as they're ready, usually
the first week of September.
Jamboree
The in-town league has an end of the season Jamboree for the 4th/5th grade
and 6th/7th/8th grade teams at Wolf Swamp Fields. Not quite a round-robin,
each team plays three games. Everyone on the 5th/5th grade teams
will receive a participation medallion or patches.
New for the 2009 season, the 6/7/8 teams will have a championship game.
The 2 teams with the best records after the half-round-robin will advance to
the championship game based on their records determined by:
1. Total points - 3 for a win and 1 for a tie
2. Head to Head competition
3. Goals against
4. Goals for
The winning teams will receive a "2009 LSA Champs" tee shirt with LSA logo.
A poster will be displayed at the fields to track the games as they are played.
Coaches: please remember to turn your equipment bags at the hut.
Coaches & Team Have a Great Season
Coaches Mike O'Shea, Robin Mulcahy and Chris Sitler and their 5th grade girls
had a fun season in 2008 and were willing to share a picture with us.
Coach Mulcahy also gave us some feedback on her experience with In-Town Director
of Coaching Richard Yam.
I did have a good experience at the coaches clinic. I
have coached for about 10 years, and I've tried to come up with new ways to
teach, and coach the players. After going to the coaches clinic, I came away
with new techniques that I could use for any age group. This has been
beneficial since I coach 2nd and 5th graders this year. Richard certainly is
knowledgeable and has vast tips for coaching. One of the things I enjoyed
at the coaches clinic was Richard's exuberance! He made the clinic fun! - Robin
Training/Practice in August
Coaches generally receive their team rosters in mid to late August, so
team practices usually start the first week of school.
For the 2008 season, In-Town Coaching Director Richard Yam
organised training for in-town and travel coaches and he will be
doing the same for the 2010 season. With Coach Yam's help, the LSA
Board is developing a plan continue improving all the coaches'
knowledge of the sport and ability to teach the game.
